File Under Foliage
File Under Foliage is a music-making project I started in 2019 (originally titled
Delano and then
G4EEN). Over on the
Bandcamp, I upload plenty of songs and demos. I write both vocal and instrumental music.
If you're interested in vocal songs, you should listen to
Building Blocks (or
Speed of Slang for a less lengthy experience), then maybe check out
This Darker Season,
Party Line,
Say It Anyway, and
Abolish the Haze for more.
If you're interested in instrumental tracks, I suggest
Aliens and
Honey, then maybe explore
Wreath,
Aliens+,
Patterns,
Field, or
Verity. And maybe the older ones too... but they aren't as good, in my opinion.
I was incredibly proud to contribute to
A Very Cherry Christmas - Volume 16.
Not quite FUF, but I'm also composing music for video games by
Semaphore Interactive.
Some favorite music acts that probably inspire me:
- R.E.M.
- They Might Be Giants
- MGMT
- Tame Impala
- Justice
- Talking Heads
- XTC
- Red Vox

Captiotia
Captiotia is a worldbuilding project and fictional country. I created it in early 2013 on the country simulation website NationStates, which is still Captiotia's primary home on the web... but not for long! While being a fun and somewhat indulgent form of self-expression, it's also helped me explore my real political beliefs to some extent.
Captiotia (/kæpti'oʃə/ cap-tee-OH-shuh), officially the Captiotian Summatory Socialist Republic, is a democratic scientific socialist country on Captiotia Island and other minor islands. Geographically, Captiotia is divided into 3 regions, 24 prefectures, and countless districts (including the capital). The modern government was established in 1948.
The government is divided into three branches:
- Senate, a body of elected representatives affiliated with political parties.
- Council, a structured network of economic organizations under worker control.
- Forum, a platform for deliberative direct democracy and public referenda.
Within the Senate, there are a few parties in a united front:
- Summatory Socialist Party, the dominant party that served as the vanguard.
- Eco-Syndicalist Party, focused on decentralization and environmental concerns.
- Popular Science Party, advocating for technological development and science.
- Radical Progressive Party, concerned with social justice and individual rights.
The economy features councils, cybernetics, economic planning, labor vouchers, universal basic income... et cetera. In addition, food, housing, transportation, healthcare, education, and other social resources are free and easily accessible. The specific structure of the local economy can vary from place to place. Captiotia continues on the path to communism, using social and technical knowledge to develop the productive forces, improve the standard of living, and cultivate wholly free association.
Captiotia is a member of the
Union of Socialist Archipelagic Republics, also known as the
Red Archipelago, an international organization of socialist societies overseas. Many segments of the Captiotian population are interested in the federalization of the USAR, with Captiotia therefore becoming a constituent country.
Captiotia has a significant space program. The main family of launch vehicles, Sigma, carries crew and cargo to the space station, enables networks of communications and monitoring satellites, and sends probes to other planets at an increasing rate.
Key projects of the Captiotian space program and variants of utilized vehicles:
- Vanguard: The initial human spaceflight project that succeeded in sending cosmonauts to space and then to orbit. The vehicle carried 2 people.
- Sigma: A long-running station ferry project with a 3-crew vehicle. In the vein of Soyuz and Shenzhou, it consisted of a service module, descent module, and orbital module. Was superceded by the Republic and Courier Programs.
Sigma-α: free-flying
Sigma-β: Synthesis Project
Sigma-γ: Community Project
Sigma-δ: Community Project (upgraded)
Habitation Module: Synthesis Project (derived from Sigma-β orbital module)
- Sojourner: Used a massive versatile 4-crew laboratory+capsule capable of long-duration free flight, such as excursions around the moon. An uncrewed variant of the vehicle was famously sent to Mars and just barely survived the trip.
Sojourner-α: Earth orbit (10 day life)
Sojourner-β: Moon orbit (30 day life)
Sojourner-γ: long-duration (150 day life)
Laboratory-Utility Module: Community Project (derived from Sojourner-γ)
- Republic: The current human spaceflight Project utilizing the Republic spacecraft with a crew capacity of 5. Currently launches to the Archipelago space station and may be used for future exploration of the moon.
Republic-α: adapted for Sigma 7
Republic-β: adapted for Sigma 9
Republic-γ: Selena Project (under development)
- Courier: Modern uncrewed cargo supply to the Archipelago space station.
Courier-α: adapted for Sigma 7
Courier-β: adapted for Sigma 9
Transit Module: Selena Project (derived from Courier-β, under development)
- Synthesis: Demonstrated rendezvous and docking of two spacecraft in low Earth orbit to create a short-term space station.
- Community: Further, medium-term space station developments utilizing modified Sojourner spacecraft. Community stations could host a crew of 6.
- Archipelago: A modern, long-term space station orbiting at 600km above the Earth. Constructed and operated with collaboration from international partners.
- Verity: A series of robotic probes to perform planetary exploration and observation of the moon and inner planets.
- Emissary: A series of robotic probes to perform planetary exploration and observation of the asteroid belt and outer planets.
- Cosmos: A series of space telescopes to observe astronomical phenomena.
- Selena: A project that will land crew on the surface of the moon. Will likely utilize a Republic capsule docked to a Courier-derived transit module. May incorporate a space station around the moon. Lander under development.
- Voyager: A conceptual project envisioned as a modern version of Sojourner, utilizing a large 8-crew vehicle with ample internal volume. Launched on a Sigma X and intended for possible future crewed trips to Mars.
Members of the Sigma launch vehicle family (tentative):
- Sigma 1: Launched Captiotia's first satellites. SLV
- Sigma 2: Launched satellites & Vanguard. MLV
- Sigma 3: Launched Sigma. MLV
- Sigma 4: Launched satellites. MLV
- Sigma 5: Launched Sojourner, station modules, & deep-space probes. HLV
- Sigma 6: Launches satellites. SLV.
- Sigma 7: Launched Republic and Courier, & satellites. MLV
- Sigma 8: Launches station modules, satellites, & deep-space probes. SHLV
- Sigma 9: Launches Republic, Courier, & satellites. Reusable booster. MLV
- Sigma X: Conceptual fully-reusable vehicle. SHLV
A few more facts about Captiotia...
Inhabitants of Captiotia are called Captiot.
The official motto of Captiotia is "All for one, one for all".
Captiot love cheese! The average Captiotian diet consists largely of grain- and soy- based foods, fruits, nuts, seeds, and dairy. The majority of Captiot are vegetarian.
The Captiotian calendar consists of 12 months of 30 days each — divided into 6 weeks of 5 days each — as well as an additional 5-day (or 6-day on leap years) holiday week at the end of the year. The new year begins on April 25 of the Gregorian calendar, one day after the anniversary of the 1948 Sigma Revolution that started the modern government.

New Horizons
New Horizons is the nickname for a sci-fi video game concept about space exploration (and accompanying social development) in the next few centuries.
Envisioned features:
- build space stations, surface settlements, asteroid mining projects
- set within a single, procedurally generated solar system
- only realistic technology; no warp drives!
- material resources: water, food, power, oxygen, fuels (hydrocarbon, radioactive, noble gas), common metals, rare metals
- intangible values: education, entertainment, inspiration, loyalty
- significant society builder element with high customization
- different starting conditions?: united world, gov't program, private corporation
- MINIMAL combat; situations resolved diplomatically, economically, culturally
- policies, such as pop movement: free, restricted, forced
- events, such as asteroid impact, pandemic, revolt/independence movement
