Verity

An aimless scavenger, spirited AI, and psychic rat-like alien team up to earn a living, explore the galaxy, and search for truth. Join Victoria, Galena, and God the Rat on their adventures throughout Archipelago.

Victoria Kowalski

An introverted and straightforward scavenger who's also a skilled mechanical engineer, Victoria is shy, self-conscious, and socially awkward, usually preferring the company of machines over people. She's been stuck in a dead-end job working for a space junk reclamation company for 5 years, barely making ends meet, and is growing more burnt-out every day. She's a frugal, no-frills, and "function over form" kind of person, having trouble understanding the value of things she considers superficial, although she has a soft spot for music and enjoys attending concerts when she can. Victoria needs some passion and direction in her life; she yearns to find people she’s truly comfortable with, and to find a way to actually fit into society and express her skills in a way that's not only materially rewarding, but truly feels emotionally rewarding as well.

Galena

The General Artificial Logic-Emotion Nexus Architecture is a spirited and excitable sentient artificial intelligence with an endless fascination with human culture, including fashion, cuisine, media, and sports. Originating from some time in the century prior to the story of Verity, she can detect that most of her memories have been mysteriously obscured, causing her much distress and prompting her to seek out any clues that could lead her to information about where she came from. She's originally confined to the computer systems of the ship, but some mechanical know-how could provide her with a physical body. Galena is a confident quick thinker and very outgoing, gaining enjoyment from meeting new people and learning about them, but she can be overbearing and have a hard time accepting when she’s wrong.

God the Rat

A playful and prankish psychic alien resembling an anthropomorphic rodent, God has an immense curiosity, thirst for novelty, and appreciation for the natural world. Prior to meeting the other two members of the Verity crew, he was living a grubby life secluded away from the galaxy for reasons that he won't yet reveal, although one can detect an aura of guilt whenever the topic comes up. Having been away from society for so long, God is somewhat old-fashioned, evident in his use of dated slang, as well as socially negligent, but he genuinely wants to get better. His psychic powers vary in strength from place to place, meaning that they aren’t always reliable. His primary and most common ability is telekinesis, but he is also sometimes capable of telepathy, shapeshifting, and teleportation. These powers often get him both into and out of trouble.

Petty's Pizzeria

A mostly-reluctant family is forced into the world of small business ownership when suddenly obligated to run a pizzeria in a fading strip mall. Say hello to Piper and Sam, their kids Robin, Ella, and Marty, and family friend Charlie, as they expose the contradictions of the modern petite bourgeoisie.

Piper Petty

Age ~47. The de facto leader, mom with a big personality, outspoken and a people person, subtly empowered by taking risks. Leaves behind a long line of underbaked ventures, although nothing too huge, and she had been relatively settled down for a while when the pizzeria was thrust upon her. She didn't ask for it, and isn't over the moon, but wants to finally have definitive success, wants to believe in herself and her family, and works hard to push down and hide her doubts and fears from others, always trying to be the positive one in a situation even if nobody else is. Leads the front of house and is the face of the pizzeria, but tries not to run the pizzeria like an autocrat. She's a bit of a sports fanatic and also enjoys a good 6-pack, game of poker, or hike.

Sam Petty

Age ~44. Piper's often-weary yet enduring and proud wife, more introverted, practical, and even cynical at times, but nonetheless flexible, dutiful, and dedicated even while sharing a dry quip, whining, or "samsplaining". She reluctantly steps into the kitchen as the more experienced cook of the pair, but she’s by no means professional, and very nervous about the financial prospects of owning the pizzeria. Handy, butchy, and obsessed with cheese. Low-key hilarious and socially aware. Passes kitchen time by singing/writing songs with Charlie, awkwardly trying to bond with Ella, or listening to podcasts and audiobooks. Also listens to them at home, often while escaping into old video games (when not playing them with the teens).

Robin Petty

Age ~17. The eldest child, with they/them pronouns. Shy, thoughtful, analytical (numbers and systems thinker), insecure, an outsider. Envies the admiration given to their younger siblings, but more so envies their drive and courage, wishing to find and display their own passion without fearing what the world thinks. Has a hippie vibe (somewhat superficially) and appreciates technology from the PC-dominated era 1995-2015. Very nervous about the pizzeria, as they don't have much interest or skill in the kitchen (and it's already usually full with Sam and Charlie and/or Ella), and they’re also shy about working the front of house among so many people, yet also yearn to find their place. For now, they mostly focus on bussing and sanitation, but show some interests in the business side of things. Vegetarian and a picky eater who only enjoys cheese pizza.

Eleanor (Ella) Petty

Age ~15. The middle child, and the only one genuinely excited upon hearing the news of their new pizzeria, she's the most enthusiastic about the prospect, and eventually, possibly being a professional pizza chef or chef in general or pizzeria tycoon or… something. Wishes her siblings and parents were more authentically passionate about the pizzeria. She's ambitious, optimistic, a go-getter, lights up a room (sometimes with annoyance). Sometimes overconfident, bites off more than she can chew, naive. But she's genuinely smart and has potential in most things she really puts her mind to. Clings overwhelmingly hard to her interests, some of which are intense phases, some of which last indefinitely. Some of her obsessions include spaceflight, ancient history, and constructing her own language.

Marty Petty

Age ~13. The youngest child, he is firmly unconventional, stands out, somewhat edgy with a sharp tongue, but with a warmly humorous presentation in the right situations. Somewhere in a vague space between emo and punk and goth. Not only reluctant about the pizzeria, but unengaged whenever possible. When working, occupies the front of house as a snarky server or helps with bussing. Full of latent dreams of artistic expression, he sketches a lot, but wishes his art was on the technical level of Robin. Acts like he doesn't care about his image while caring very deeply. He often switches between newly requested hardcore names, typically in the vein of "Shadow" or "Maelstrom" or “Blade’s Edge”, although is always still fine with Marty. Has a budding interest in philosophy sparked by Sam, opening up a journey of introspection, and begins to look up to Charlie’s shameless uniqueness.

Charlie

Age ~52. A family friend of the Pettys via Piper’s eventful 20s who comes to help them with their pizzeria, as he actually has some experience in a restaurant and as a cook. Somewhat neurotic, perfectionist, and scatterbrained, but warm, loyal, and authentic. During downtime, often lingers around the pizzeria, siphoning wi-fi from the neighboring cafe (they don’t mind) and working on mysterious projects on his laptop. Sings a lot and is decent enough, enjoys kitchen duets with Sam. He seems to hold a vast amount of obscure knowledge about various parts of science, culture, or technique, as demonstrated by his action during crises or just in the flow of action on the line, but has trouble explicitly recalling much of it on command. He enjoys the company of the Pettys and feels sort of like an uncle to the teens, giving him the experience of raising kids that he desired but missed out on, prompting him to mentor them. Long, flowing hair. Bought a 3-bedroom house long ago, filled the other bedrooms with model trains and “paraphernalia”.

Lopscotch

Six rabbit friends are cast into a surreal landscape to play a complex game and transform their world. Get to know the unique personalities and roles of Felix, Edwin, Doris, Casey, Blake, and Alana, and uncover the tragic origin of the Blur.

Felix (he/him) is the wild card of the group. He’s spontaneous, impulsive, and doesn’t always think things through, but he has a certain charisma and optimism that makes him hard to dislike. His carefree nature and love for cheese define much of his character, and his chaotic behavior often leads to unexpected outcomes. His biggest strengths are his creativity, resourcefulness, and ability to keep things lighthearted, even when the situation is tense. However, his lack of foresight and tendency to act before thinking can create problems for himself and others. Felix has a deep-seated resistance to anything that feels boring or predictable: he thrives in chaos and has a natural gift for turning mishaps into new opportunities. His Telenet handle is CHZ360, in ruby red.

Edwin (he/him) is a thinker, the intellectual of the group. Sarcastic, cynical, and highly analytical, he enjoys solving puzzles and is constantly seeking deeper meaning in everything he encounters. Unlike Felix, he approaches life with caution and logic, often overthinking situations. Though emotionally distant, Edwin is deeply curious and believes in finding answers for everything. However, his skepticism makes him hard to impress, and he often dismisses things that seem too 'easy' or unexamined. Edwin struggles to form emotional connections, preferring intellectual engagement over personal relationships. However, his emotional reserve doesn't mean he doesn't care, he just expresses it in subtle, logical ways. His Telenet handle is WHY247, in citrine yellow.

Doris (she/her) is the planner, the organizer of the group. Highly responsible, nurturing, and somewhat perfectionistic, Doris takes on the task of keeping things in order, both in the group's affairs and their own life. She’s always the first to step in when something needs to be done, but the pressure of perfectionism often leads to internal stress. Doris struggles to accept that not everything can be planned or controlled, and while she provides stability and structure to the group, she often feels burdened by the weight of responsibility. She wishes she could embrace the chaos Felix seems to thrive in, but her need for control often prevents it. Deep down, Doris wants to relax and let go of her rigid structure, but she fears losing control and becoming overwhelmed by life’s unpredictability. Her Telenet handle is ORZ808, in emerald green.

Casey (they/them) is the heart of the group, emotionally intelligent and always seeking to connect on a deeper level. They’re the idealist who believes in the best of people, often trying to smooth over conflict and bring balance to the group dynamic. As the emotional glue, Casey plays the role of mediator, offering support and comfort when needed. However, they’re also naïve, often idealizing situations or people and finding it difficult to accept that not everything can be fixed with optimism. While Casey may struggle with the practicalities of life, their emotional insight is invaluable to the group, offering a grounding and supportive presence. Their Telenet handle is TRU143, in sapphire blue.

Blake (they/them) is the group's quiet protector. They’re stoic and brooding, preferring to observe and act when necessary rather than getting caught up in emotional displays. While others may be emotionally expressive, Blake is more reserved and prefers to handle matters privately, often through creative outlets like drawing or painting. Despite their reserved nature, Blake is deeply reliable and always there when someone needs them, especially in a crisis. Their quiet, protective attitude often keeps the group grounded when things get overwhelming. They have a deep well of emotions but struggle to express them outwardly, often hiding their vulnerability behind their tough exterior. Blake feels more at ease when they’re helping others, but they often feel isolated due to their inability to share their own emotions. Their Telenet handle is BAD777, in amethyst purple.

Alana (she/her) is enigmatic and enjoys playing the role of the puzzle master. Aloof and cryptic, she rarely provides direct answers and prefers to let others figure things out on their own. She’s often seen as being a little distant or even unhelpful, but this is just part of her personality: she likes keeping things hidden. Though Alana may appear aloof or even frustrating at times, she isn’t malicious. She enjoys keeping people on their toes and doesn't mind letting the world remain a mystery. Alana often operates by her own logic, which may seem baffling to others. She has an innate talent for seeing things from an unconventional angle, which can be both helpful and frustrating to the rest of the group. Her Telenet handle is BUG404, in hematite grey.
