Prepping Charlie’s house for a visit from his judgmental sister and repairing Petty’s ventilation system turn into the same problem: what happens when neglect finally gets addressed.

The family helps Charlie prepare his house before Sabine’s visit, exposing the odd warmth of his solitary domestic life: model trains, freelance work clutter, anxious cleaning, and Algernon’s elaborate rodent habitat. Charlie wants his sister to see that he has built a life, while fearing she will only see what is strange about it. Meanwhile, Sam cleans and repairs Petty’s ventilation system with the help of Gary, opening up about her present family fears and past family tragedy through the lens of neglected maintenance. The episode lets relatives, humidity, family judgment, and breathable air all become the same problem.
