David Goldstone is an orchardist found dead at the site of a roadside ambush, killed before Brink’s party ever meets him alive. His recovered letter, ledger, and map become one of the driving threads of the story’s middle stretch, eventually pointing the party toward a sealed tomb and a wider web of local business and obligation in the town of Vanesville.

The name is shared with an unrelated figure elsewhere in the DecoSoluverse. Per the site’s echoes-not-identities convention, this is treated as an authorial namesake rather than a claim that the two are the same person; see The DecoSoluverse.
