Transportation
Captiot Universal Rail, abbreviated CUR, is the integrated public rail system of the Captiot Commonwealth. It uses three main gauge families, Slim, Mid, and Wide, and is designed as a layered rail ecology rather than a single universal train type, serving local mobility, urban transit, regional passenger movement, underground logistics, national intercity travel, high-speed service, heavy freight, mobile public life, maintenance, and emergency movement.

Track gauge is the distance between the inside faces of the rails; vehicle width is the body’s full outside width, and vehicle bodies normally overhang the rails. Actual infrastructure accounts for suspension sway, wheel/rail tolerances, track wear, curve overhang, vehicle roll, cant, wind loading, emergency clearance, platform gaps, and dynamic envelope well beyond the static overhang alone.
Slim Gauge
Slim Gauge, at 900 mm, supports two major vehicle families. ULN rail vehicles are compact automated or semi-automated freight and logistics vehicles prioritizing reliability, frequency, modular loading, low tunnel cost, and automated dispatch, ranging from small ULN vehicles at 1.2 to 1.4 meters wide for local delivery up to heavy ULN trunk vehicles at 2.0 to 2.3 meters for district trunk logistics. Slim trams are local passenger vehicles that may run on streets, boulevards, dedicated rights-of-way, or generous urban guideways, from constrained older-street trams at 2.2 to 2.4 meters up to special large Slim light rail vehicles at 2.8 to 3.0 meters, which require purpose-built routes.
Mid Gauge
Mid Gauge, at 1,600 mm, is the workhorse of urban, suburban, and regional passenger service, ranging from compact metro or older urban stock at 2.8 to 3.0 meters through standard metro and regional stock at 3.0 to 3.3 meters up to special large Mid vehicles at 3.8 to 4.0 meters. A mature Captiot Mid vehicle typically falls in the 3.2 to 3.5 meter range.
Wide Gauge
Wide Gauge, at 2,500 mm, supports the Commonwealth’s largest national rail vehicles: Nomads, Sprints, Sightseers, and Couriers, described below. Wide gauge supports high capacity, stability, large vehicle bodies, heavy freight, and major intercity infrastructure.

Nomads are the largest regular passenger vehicles in CUR, Wide-gauge triple-level trains that function as moving public villages on national routes. They require dedicated platforms and infrastructure, with their main engineering challenges being height, mass, crosswind exposure, evacuation, station geometry, tunnel size, bridge clearance, and multi-deck boarding. Nomads are visually massive and civic rather than fast; their role is long-distance public life, residence-like travel, and high-capacity national circulation.

Sprints are Wide-gauge high-speed steel-wheel trains, fast national passenger trains distinct from Nomads. Routine commercial steel-wheel service generally tops out around 400 km/h, with high-speed limits shaped by aerodynamics, tunnel pressure waves, pantograph and contact-wire dynamics, braking distance, noise, wheel and rail wear, and track maintenance tolerances.
Sightseers and Couriers
Sightseers are Wide-gauge passenger trains designed for scenic and comfortable travel, larger and slower than Sprints but smaller and less village-like than Nomads, serving domestic travel, scenic corridors, regional tourism, and long comfortable routes where speed is not the sole priority. Couriers are Wide-gauge heavy-duty freight trains that carry large shares of national freight across major corridors, connecting to regional distribution, ULN systems, ports, industrial districts, and Common Fund provisioning networks.
Track and Platform Strategy
CUR uses several nested or shared-gauge arrangements. Four-rail common-side track shares one rail among Slim, Mid, and Wide gauges, efficient for mixed corridors, shared stopping service, and common-edge platforms where mixed use is common and speeds are moderate. Six-rail common-center track gives all gauges the same civil centerline, useful in tunnels, bridges, viaducts, mountain passes, and high-standard shared corridors where symmetric clearance matters more than shared side platforms. Separate native tracks serve major stations, complex junctions, high-speed routes, Nomad terminals, heavy freight, and dense metro lines, wherever specialization is more efficient than mixed-gauge complexity.
CUR’s platform strategy is correspondingly plural: dedicated native platforms for Nomads, Sprints, Couriers, and major hubs; common-edge mixed platforms on selected four-rail corridors where compatible vehicles share platform-side alignment; and a common split-before-station layout in which a nested shared corridor passes through an unweaving zone before reaching native-gauge tracks and platforms. Multi-gauge plain track is manageable, but multi-gauge turnouts are difficult, so CUR minimizes complex multi-gauge turnouts by using unweaving zones before platforms, depots, junctions, and specialized facilities; high-speed multi-gauge turnouts are rare, and Sprint-grade lines avoid them wherever possible.
